    It’s one thing that most everyone has in common— we all had a mother at some point or another, and she had a maiden name (or still has it, if she never married). Plus it’s something that is not likely to be forgotten, and easy to be reminded of in case we do forget, by simply asking your Mom.

    I really don’t know. Your mother’s maiden name is something that can be looked up pretty easily. I would think that if you ask to change it to something else they would let you.

    Oh, boy, do I agree with you! Especially considering that a lot of kids these days have their mother’s maiden name as part, or all of their last name, this is a gaping security hole.

    Also, here in the Philippines, children are routinely given their mother’s maiden name as their middle name.
